Household Literacy Survey 2011
In 2011, the National Literacy & Awareness Secretariat in partnership with the National Statistical Office and UNESCO conducted Household Literacy Survey. The Survey was conducted in Eastern Highland Province and Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
The survey was conducted to assess the literacy rate of the people of Eastern Highlands Province and Autonomous Region of Bougainville. It was conducted to measure the peoples’ ability to read and write including the spoken languages and access to literacy training centers.

CapEFA Project 2009
To elevate the profile of adult literacy programs in the country, UNESO funded CapEFA Project was launched in Port Moresby at the end 2009. The main goal of CapEFA Project is to strengthen national capacities in leading, coordinating, planning and managing evidence– and results-based sustainable liter-acy and non-formal education development in PNG.

The priority areas addressed by the project included
(i) National ownership and partnership-building;
(ii) Institutional capacity;
(iii) Organizational capacity;
(iv) Quality and equity, and
(v) Knowledge-generation for capacity development.

CapEFA Project has now ceased operation since June 2012.
